American black walnut ovals or ‘cookies’ are hard to find as the timber is almost always sawn into planks for high-end furniture, and cookies will almost certainly split or crack as they dry out. The splits in these cookies have been filled with metallic copper resin.
As the end grain is facing up, they make excellent chopping boards in addition to their more common use as charcuterie boards or platters.
